Introducing Legit Mom Style
A (mostly) daily chronicle of everyday, (hopefully) effortlessly cool looks I put together & wear as an entrepreneur & mom.
I started my accessories brand in 2015 from my living room in San Diego, California. I was a mom trying to figure out my personal style, and I was also craving something to pursue for myself outside of motherhood. I had no background in design or entrepreneurship, but I decided to teach myself how to make jewelry and see if I could create a business from there.
With about $1,000 to invest, I bought my materials, made the first batch of pieces, set up my online shop and hoped for the best. I had no budget for advertising, so I focused on building community through a customer referral program and creating style-oriented content social media.
I created a hashtag — #legitmomstyle — to use whenever I shared my everyday mom looks, and that evolved into style videos that featured outfit ideas and ways to wear the jewelry I made and sold. This newsletter is a nod to the early days of my personal style journey in motherhood, and a journal of the (hopefully) effortlessly cool outfits I put together for my life as an entrepreneur and mother.
Some quick context…
As the founder of a fashion brand, I work in a casual, creative environment and can wear whatever I like, so thankfully my casual style works well for everyday office life. Almost every outfit you see is worn for work and home life, with some exceptions of course for outfits I wear to events. But really, my entire wardrobe is my mom wardrobe. They’re one and the same. Being around my family is my number one favorite thing, and I’m so glad I can still wear what I love while I do it.
That being said, don’t let the name of the newsletter mislead you — I won’t be sharing about motherhood or my kids in any way. Just dishing out the daily looks to inspire you to get dressed in something you love each day (whether you’re a mom or not)!
