Here’s a casual weekend look with my sidekick — and a very important reminder that you don’t have to dress in “flattering” clothes all the time. In fact, I really hate the use of the word when it comes to clothes and have essentially removed it from my vocabulary altogether.
The truth is, years ago I never would’ve had the confidence to wear an oversized shirt with loose jeans and sneakers. It sounds dramatic, but literally NO WAY. I even struggled with the switch from skinny jeans to straight leg jeans because they didn’t feel, well, “flattering.”
But eventually when I realized that by always focusing on what was “flattering” —aka only dressing myself to appear thinner or smaller — was absolutely holding me back, I felt like I discovered a new part of myself. I developed not only a new level of body confidence and self-acceptance, but also a new level of my personal style.
Key takeaway for the day: the coolest way to dress is to dress like YOU ✌🏼
It’s so true Natalie. Thanks for the reminder. And do you know what? You can tell. Even In pictures. No matter how cute the outfit or item, if it’s not the persons true personal style, it somehow comes through. Even in a picture where everything about it ‘should’ be good.
I’m starting to believe that if we feel good in a bin bag and that’s our style, then we look good. Because we’re happy. And that’s always the cutest accessory of all. You look beautiful because it’s you. Lots of love. Have a Great week 😘
I’ve never thought of flattering as looking as thin as possible, I always thought it meant more balanced. It’s interesting how people perceive the word differently. As a very thin person, I find it most “flattering” to wear clothes that give me more shape.
