Week in Review #13: Aging well, summer travel packing & the perfect tank.
I am slowly but surely building a new habit that my 90-year-old self will certainly thank me for!
Both of my grandmothers lived to be 100 years old. While I am a big believer that life is short and each day is a gift, I am also intensely aware (and admittedly a little fearful) that I have a decent chance of living a very long life. Autonomy is also one of my highest personal values, and if you combine that with with the very real possibility of living another 60+ years, you’ll perhaps arrive at the realization I had this year: I need to take better care of my body so that I can be strong, capable, independent and pain-free for as long as humanly possible.
About a year ago I started going to yoga every week, largely as a means to process the intensity of my life at the time — suddenly losing a dear friend to cancer, plus an extremely toxic business partnership that I finally got myself out of in July. Yoga became the place where I could physically move and emotionally process all at once, and I think I cried at the end of every class for months.
Fast forward to now, and I still love yoga, and I finally feel ready to add on weight lifting to my routine to support healthy aging, and also just generally feel stronger, sleep better and keep those endorphins flowing. I’ve always known that lifting weights is beneficial, but after struggling with an eating disorder and exercise addiction in my late teens and early 20s, I’ve avoided it completely.
When I previously shared about my desire to start weight lifting but feeling unsure of where to start, I got so many incredible and supportive responses!! I really appreciate all of the encouragement and helpful tips, and based on what many of you suggested, I decided to try out the Moves App so that I don’t have to overthink it and can easily follow along with a the workout at the gym or at home.
I’m extremely averse to anything related to “bikini bodies” or “burning calories” and so far what I’ve seen on the app has been positive, uplifting, instructional and body neutral. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Do you think much about aging in terms of your physical body (vs. aesthetics)? Do you have any tips for me as I begin building a weights habit?
Thought of the Week
Perfect Everyday Hoops (I’m Biased)
This week we launched our new Everyday Flat Hoops and let me tell you — they’re amazing! The perfect not-too-small, not-too-big size that looks great solo or paired with the Everyday Huggie Hoops or stud in a second piercing. The 925 Sterling Silver sold out quickly, but will be restocked next week so be sure you’re on the VIP list and/or select “Notify Me” on the product page for first dibs when they’re back. The 14K Gold is still in stock and is the ultimate minimalist hoop — swim, in them, shower in them, wear them 24/7 and they never tarnish.
What I Packed & Wore in Hilton Head Last Week
In lieu of my usual “What I Wore Last Week” post, I shared a minimalist, carry-on only packing list for my week in Hilton Head with family. My two favorite looks from the week are below, and you can see the full list & all the outfits here.
Sold Out NYC x Natalie Borton
The collaboration continues, now with 3 effortlessly cool, minimalist tops to complete your summer wardrobe & beyond— The Racerback Tank in Cream, The Perfect Linen Tee in Olive and The One & Only Tank in White. We’ll be dropping one final style in the coming week or so…can you guess what it will be?!
Currently Reading & Recent Saves
Four Thousand Weeks — I read this last year and decided to reread it because it was such a good and thought-provoking read. Feels like something worth revisiting time and time again.
Shift — this is book 2 in the Silo series and I’m very into it. I also loved the show and am dying for the next season to come out!!
Now, some interesting posts that I’ve read and saved recently that I think you’d enjoy as well…

You’ll Never Be Cool | “Sometimes you come across something so weird you can’t imagine yourself wearing it, but also so weird you can’t imagine yourself not wearing it.”
How I Tamed My Envy of Almost Everyone But Especially Elizabeth Gilbert | “When I was leading a misaligned life, particularly with my career, I was always looking outside of myself, believing that if I had what other people had—or at least said they had on social media—perhaps I would be happier. It was easier to engage in envy than to see that I had the solution within me if I could gain the courage to step outside my comfort zone.”
Hope you have a great weekend — until next time!

One of the best types of exercises any woman/person identifying as female can do for their bone health is weight bearing/load based exercises! Don’t skip it ladies, there’s no such thing as too late to make a difference for your health!
Thx for the shout it! Also love lifting weights bc it makes me feel strong. I also have issues around body and disordered eating so I get the skepticism…it’s smart to always be checking in on the “why” behind exercise.
