What I Wore This Week | 05
An outfit fail, my ultimate base outfit formula and a favorite summer bag back in stock!
I started my week of outfits off on a bad foot, but thankfully I managed to recover. What went wrong exactly? Let’s quickly walk through it, because I find it’s often just as (if not more) helpful to know when something doesn’t work than to only know when it does work.
On Tuesday, I had a major outfit fail. Objectively, the look was fine, but it felt terrible and I couldn’t wait to change!! The longer I’ve invested in developing my personal style, the more in tune I’ve gotten with how clothes feel vs how they look and the outfit I wore was a great example of that. Button up shirt, jeans, sweater, sneakers — all of those things sound great and probably even looked great to someone else! But the whole thing felt fussy and that is never what I want with my style.
If I had to pick 3 words for my style right now (a la Allison Bornstein) I’d probably choose effortless, elevated & cool. And the effortless definitely doesn’t just mean how it looks, it also means that it feels comfortable so I can go on with my day, not be distracted by how my clothes feel. In the end, I think the reason the look didn’t work out for me is that it was lacking in the “effortless” department. The three words (or any short way of describing your style) is a great filter to sift through when getting dressed and also can really help reduce impulse or trend-based purchases. Do you use a method like that for your own personal style? I’d love to hear about it in the comments if you do!
Now, here’s what I wore this past week…1
TUESDAY: This outfit was not it — and officially the end of my relationship with tight pants for the foreseeable future. I liked the idea of the individual elements, but hated how I felt in it and couldn’t wait to get home and change into baggy jeans!! I also started the day with a sweater over my shoulders, but quickly ditched that because it added to the fussiness.
WEDNESDAY: Based on the day before, I put my straight leg jeans into storage and grabbed a big pair of comfy horseshoe pants to wear to the office. I love this all-black look!
THURSDAY: Another day in black! It was a chaotic morning at home getting kids ready, getting the dog in the car and remembering all of my things I needed to bring to the office with me, so I stuck to the basics and my ultimate base outfit formula.
FRIDAY: Initially I was thinking I’d go for my baggy jeans and a tank for a day of packing up orders at the studio, but I decided to go for loose trousers instead. Equally comfy, way more elevated. I love them paired with my cream linen tee and my cute little checkerboard back (which just came back in stock, by the way!)
SATURDAY: Different day, same idea! I kept it tonal with cream & tan hues just like the day before, including my newest Clare V bag to replace an older version with a red zipper that I wasn’t wear much.
SUNDAY (Morning): The denim mini skirt is back in style and I’m glad I hung on to mine from several years ago! Honestly, I prefer the denim mini to denim shorts — equally cool and casual, and way more comfortable. Mine has an a-line fit so it’s easy to wear and move in. I paired it with a belt, blazer and a bucket bag to elevate the look overall.
SUNDAY (Afternoon): Outfit change for an afternoon at the movies with my family — baggy jeans were a must. This proved to be a great movie theater look!
MONDAY (most of the day): Pajamas until the afternoon is my ideal way to spend a day off if I’m honest — I lounged around in these all morning, sipping espresso and reading a book.
MONDAY (Afternoon): This loose dress is one of my summertime favorites — I have it in Terra Brown as well. It’s so easy to wear, and has a sexiness to it thanks to the way the neckline & back are cut. I love it!
Until next time!

Love these fits! Especially the loose dress. I feel you on the no tight things right now! I’m having a hard time styling those same Sambas right now…Any recommendations?
Hmm, I've been trying to settle on my three words for years. Edges is one (whether that means tailored, asymmetry, layers, or edg-y!). Unfussy is another (whether that means comfy, conscious of my sensory needs, or stays put) ... Choosing the third us hard because it feels final. I dress pretty feminine most of the time, but I loathe eyelets and love me some Rick Owens. So it feels tricky!
