What I Wore This Week #9: Double denim, mini skirts, loose dresses & more.
Summer finally decided to show up in San Diego and for once in my life, I don't hate that it's warm out.
Historically I’m someone who really hates the heat, but this year I am welcoming summer weather with open arms. Granted, San Diego summer is pretty mild and comfortable (and not humid), but it’s big progress for me who has historically really dreaded higher temperatures.
Keep scrolling to see what I wore for the first week of summer — let me know in the comments which one is your favorite!1
TUESDAY: Double denim strikes again! This has been one of my favorite combos this year for sure.
WEDNESDAY: The green mini skirt arrived and it is excellent! I wore this to the fair with my family (I don’t ride the rides) and it was comfortable for walking around in the suddenly warm weather. I love the color and the asymmetrical fit of the skirt — a really fun summer alternative to shorts.
THURSDAY: This is the COMFIEST dress I own (I have it in two colors because it’s that good). Loose and breezy, yet has a bit of sexiness to it thanks to the way it’s cut at the top. It’s restocking next month — I will let you know when it’s available again!!
FRIDAY: Definitely my favorite outfit of the week — if I could only wear one outfit all summer long, this might be it.
SATURDAY: We went to our first Padres game of the season and it was TOASTY. The loose dress & hat combo proved to be a good choice. I got this dress last summer in Martha’ Vineyard. I found it online almost entirely sold out, but I’m linking it for you in case you want to hunt for it secondhand.
SUNDAY: Now that summer is here, loose dresses/skirts and pants are my number one choice for the day.
MONDAY: I got to have a great conversation about body image & the power of words when one of my kids looked at my outfit and then asked me, “Why do grown-ups have such gross veins?” An innocent question, no doubt, and also a great teaching moment — about keeping some thoughts to yourself, about confidence (and not getting easily offended), and about wearing what you like and being true to yourself, no matter what. Who knew a mini skirt could teach such important lessons?!
Until next time!
xx

My friend shared this with me the other day too. If you want to say something about someone that they can’t change in 30 seconds then it’s better to leave it in your head. It doesn’t work perfectly, but for kids when they want to comment on weight, hair, style, veins 🤣 it might make them rethink it. I’ve talked to my kids age 13, 11, and 9 about this.
My favorite outfit is the black tank and denim mini. That’s exactly my style. I’m learning so much about layering with accessories. That black and white bag is simple but adds so much to the look.
